Antique Ethnographic Hand-Formed Terracotta Water Jug | Primitive Globular Vessel

Description: A primitive, hand-formed ethnographic earthenware water jug or oil vessel. This piece features a bulbous, globular body that transitions into a thick, flaring neck with a heavily rolled rim collar. An integrated, hand-pulled strap handle bridges the upper neck to the rounded shoulder of the vessel. The exterior surface displays a coarse, sand-tempered clay texture with a variegated brown, ochre, and dark charcoal finish, indicating a traditional open-air pit firing process. Dimensions: Stands approximately 10.25 inches in height to the upper rim lip with a maximum body diameter of roughly 8.5 inches. Markings: The coarse, flat bottom ring is unmarked, which is standard for historic utilitarian tribal or regional folk pottery. The primitive coiled construction, surface pitting, and mineral firing bloom traits point to an early ethnographic origin, likely Mediterranean, North African, or Spanish folk utility ware. Condition: Weathered, primitive antique condition. The heavy earthenware body is structurally intact and free of large structural cracks or major modern repairs. The piece shows extensive historical aging and display wear, including comprehensive surface pitting, fine hairline crazing, small firing indentations, and light rim smoothing. The undercarriage base features heavy, dark tar-like resin accumulation, localized carbon soot tracking, and embedded soil crusting from historic ground storage.
