Vintage 1940 Warner Sallman “Head of Christ” Framed Lithograph – Kriebel & Bates 1941

Offered at auction is a vintage Warner Sallman “Head of Christ” lithograph, one of the most recognizable religious images of the 20th century. Sallman’s famous portrait depicts Christ in profile with long flowing hair, a beard, and a serene, contemplative expression. The artwork is signed “Warner Sallman 1940” along the lower left and is marked “Copyright 1941 Kriebel & Bates, Litho. in U.S.A.” along the lower right. The original color image was produced through a six-color lithographic process, which helped create the distinctive luminous appearance associated with Sallman’s work. This example is presented in a vintage gold-tone decorative wood frame with a raised ornamental border. The back retains the original-style paper backing and hanging wire, with a V-M Co. marking visible. Approximate overall dimensions: 23” x 18” Condition: Vintage/used condition. The print shows age-related wear, including some surface marks and imperfections visible in the photographs. The frame also shows appropriate age, wear, scuffs, and finish loss.
