Antique 2-Gallon Two-Tone Stoneware Whiskey Jug with Blue Cobalt Number

A classic American antique stoneware merchant jug featuring a traditional two-tone glaze configuration. The piece displays a creamy, salt-glazed bristol stoneware body beneath a rich, dark brown glazed shoulder and neck. The front face is stamped with a prominent, hand-brushed blue cobalt stylized numeral "2" indicating its liquid capacity. It is structurally complete with its original molded clay loop handle attached smoothly at the neck and upper shoulder. Dimensions: Stands approximately 14 inches high with a base diameter of 9 inches. Condition Report: The jug shows typical signs of historical utilitarian use and age. Close inspection reveals a shallow chip on the outer rim of the top spout next to the handle attachment point, alongside small pop marks and manufacturing imperfections inherent to antique pottery firing. The main stoneware body and base rim exhibit minor scuffing and localized surface staining, but remain free of large structural cracks or major repairs.
