Antique Belmont Hardware Co. 50-Lb Spring Scale & Forged Meat Hook Lot

Description: A primitive two-piece antique iron hardware and agricultural tool group lot. The first component is an authentic turn-of-the-century mechanical spring-driven hanging scale featuring a flat sheet-steel faceplate with an indented decorative bracket border and an integrated pointer needle indicator slider. The companion tool is a massive, heavy-gauge primitive hand-forged black iron slaughterhouse meat hook or hay barn hoist, stylized with an architectural double-twisted rope spiral shank body ending in dual circular anchor loop eyes. Dimensions: The Belmont hanging scale plate measures 8 inches in length by 2.25 inches wide, extending to a total functional vertical span of 13.5 inches with both wire attachment hooks fully extended. The hand-forged spiral iron hook assembly measures 11.25 inches in width from the pointed tip across to the twisted rope shank frame. Markings: The upper front face of the metal scale is stamped with a crisp, authentic manufacturer hallmark configuration reading "BELMONT / HDWE CO. / PAT. JAN. 23, 1900." The lower section displays debossed numeric indexing increments tracking weight values from 0 up to 50 pounds. The primitive hand-forged iron hook is completely unbranded. Condition: Authentic primitive condition showing deep historic workshop patina and utility age. The Belmont spring scale mechanism remains complete with an functional internal tension spring tracking slider; the steel casing shows widespread finish thinning, scattered storage scuffs, and natural localized oxidation spots. The heavy-gauge hand-forged iron hook assembly is exceptionally solid, displaying a thick dark brown weathered patina, variable surface scale texture, and superficial surface rust oxidation appropriate for early 20th-century ironware.
