Antique Industrial Heavy Metal Mine / Marine Wall Telephone

Description This auction presents a remarkably rare, heavy-duty antique wall-mounted industrial telephone. Built to withstand hazardous environments, this rugged piece was historically utilized in mining operations, marine vessels, or heavy manufacturing plants. The unit consists of a cast metal subset ringer box with an integrated horn cradle and a matching solid cast handset. Product Features & Details Box Dimensions: The main cast housing measures approximately 6.5 inches wide by 6 inches high (excluding the top cradle extensions). Handset: A heavy, solid cast metal handset with a perforated ear/mouthpiece design, styled identically to early industrial and marine communication systems. Internal Components: The reverse side reveals an open-back interior featuring an original integrated single mechanical ringer bell brass mechanism and insulated wire coil. Wiring: Retains its vintage dual-strand cloth-insulated cord connecting the handset to the main subset box. Condition Report This industrial antiquity is offered in authentic, as-found weathered condition. Surface Condition: The exterior metal displays a rich, heavy aged patina with widespread oxidation, surface rust, pitted texture, and residual grime consistent with industrial or subterranean use. Traces of an early painted finish are visible underneath the oxidation on the handset. Wiring Condition: The cloth-insulated cord shows significant fraying, separation, and fiber loss, particularly near the top handset connection point. Functionality: The interior mechanisms are completely exposed at the rear and show severe dust, rust, and age-related deterioration. The unit is untested and sold strictly as a historical collectible, restoration project, or industrial design statement piece.
