1922 Peace Silver Dollar $1 Circulated (First Year Low Relief Issue, 90% Fine Silver)

1922 Peace Silver Dollar $1 Circulated (First Year Low Relief Issue, 90% Fine Silver)

Description

Designation: 1922 United States Anthony de Francisci Peace Silver Dollar Business Strike Mintage Year: 1922 (The first full production year of the low-relief coin redesign) Mint Location: Philadelphia Mint (Struck without a mint mark during this era) Denomination: One Dollar ($1.00 USD) Composition: 90% Silver, 10% Copper (0.7734 Troy Ounce pure silver weight) Grade/Condition: Circulated / Very Fine to Extremely Fine (Mixed VF–EF Details) Historical Context & Design Details: The Low Relief Transition: Following the initial high-relief striking launch late in 1921, the U.S. Mint discovered that the deep design dies were buckling production lines and shattering worker hubs. To overcome these limitations, the fields were flattened into a low-relief model for 1922, paving the way for a massive production run of 51,737,000 pieces at the Philadelphia main facility. The Obverse: Features a modern, forward-gazing portrait profile of Lady Liberty adorned with an elegant radiant tiara modeled after the crown on the Statue of Liberty. The background features the text "IN GOD WE TRVST" using traditional Latin typography. The Reverse: Displays a peaceful, watchful bald eagle standing at rest upon a mountain peak clutching an olive branch. The background incorporates a canopy of rising sun rays behind the simple inscription "PEACE". Condition & Eye Appeal Notes: Surfaces & Patina: The coin exhibits an honest, highly authentic circulated appearance. The surfaces feature an even amber-golden and soft slate-gray environmental patina running along the perimeter inscriptions on both sides. Remnants of original mint luster remain nestled inside the deep letter recesses. Wear Analysis: Moderate to light pocket wear has smoothed the high points across Liberty's cheekbone, the hair waves behind her neck, and the upper feathers of the reverse eagle's wing and leg plumage. All outer lettering, stars, and the "1922" date remain fully readable and distinct. Minor Flaws: Features two tiny, dark carbon or toning specks on the reverse face—one positioned on the mountain ridge directly beneath the word "DOLLAR" and a second small spot near the tail feathers. Rim & Presentation: The outer reeded edge profile and structural protective circular rims are uniform, solid, and free of distracting post-mint dings. Cleanly secured inside a premium, protective round acrylic coin capsule.
