Vintage Owens-Illinois Clear Glass Square Ribbed 1 Gallon Hoosier Pantry Counter Jar

Item Description This large vintage utility counter jar was manufactured by the renowned Owens-Illinois Glass Company. Originally designed to hold bulk commercial goods, these heavy, durable storage containers quickly became iconic fixtures in American kitchens and Hoosier cabinets.  Design & Form: Features a heavy-weight clear glass body in a classic square silhouette with a wide mouth and distinctive vertical ribbing decorating the corner columns. Three sides feature the vertical ribbing pattern for a secure grip, while the front face presents a large, smooth recessed square panel intended for a product label. Maker Markings: The underside base features the embossed, historic Owens-Illinois "Diamond, Oval, and I" entwined logo, surrounded by mold style numbers (7 and 5). This definitive trademark dates the production of this piece between 1929 and the mid-1950s. Lid Assembly: Complete with its original, vintage textured metal screw-on lid. Dimensions: Substantial countertop size standing approximately 8.5 inches tall with a base width of 6 inches square, providing a spacious 1-gallon capacity.  True Condition Analysis A close inspection of the glass body reveals clean, clear clarity with no cloudiness or heavy residue. The smooth label panel, threaded jar rim, and corner ribs are free of any cracks, fractures, or major post-production chips. The underside base exhibits normal shelf-wear scuffing consistent with age. The original metal lid retains its structural integrity, tightening securely onto the threads, though it displays an attractive vintage patina with authentic surface oxidation, paint loss, and superficial corrosion concentrated on both the exterior top and interior undersides.
